Subway Hands Part 2

First Friday at Salt at the Tannery

You saw the Subway Hands show at the Loft Salon & Spa in January and February. Well, here comes Part 2.

Subway Hands Painting series by local artist Darrah Robinson at Salt in the Tannery encourages us to see the humanity in strangers and the connections between ourselves and the people we haven't connected with yet. These paintings of strangers on public transportation are made to thwart the fear and paranoia that we have developed around safety throughout the pandemic. Robinson urges viewers to contemplate how they feel around people in public now versus before quarantine. Are you less likely to hold a door for a stranger for fear they might cough near you? What small ways have we given up connection to our communities? How can we learn to not be scared of each other after constantly being told to be 6 feet apart for safety? Is our physical safety always more important than our emotional safety? Can we strike a better balance?
