We aren’t given tools to process a global pandemic. Painting has been a way for me to process and express my thoughts and feelings throughout this experience. When I take off my mask and put on my apron, my studio becomes my safe space, free from a deadly virus and the anxiety that it produces. In the studio I take moments from my camera roll and transform them into oil paintings that display different aspects of the complex experience of living through a pandemic. Shapes, colors and visual rhythms become metaphors for the dance we have been doing between solitude and serenity, and being part of a global community and witnessing fierce destruction.
